Passing of the Torch...

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to reach out to all of our IB Commander Family and thank you all for the support over the last two years.  The first 5 years of the IB Program at Ed White High School have been tumultuous and in a state of constant change, but equally rich in major success stories.  As many of you already know, I will be resigning my position as IB Coordinator (at the end of this school year) to move closer to home for the sake of my growing family.  I have shared the many joys and struggles of the program with my IB Family, but the time has come for me to move on.

Stepping up to lead the next generation of great IB Commanders is Mrs. Karine Jones.  Mrs. Jones has been a part of the IB Program since its infancy; teaching French and Theory of Knowledge along the way.  I will serve as an adviser to Mrs. Jones until she masters her role as the IB Coordinator. In addition, she will have a strong supporting faculty and administrative team that will continue to harbor the same vision of what the IB Program can be at Ed White.

I wish you all the best of luck as you continue down your path of greatness!

Sincerely,

Ben Carter

Graduation Stoles:

IB Senior Graduation Stoles have been ordered  for all seniors and are $30.  Students can pay via check or cash.  All monies will be collected by Mr. Carter.  Monies not collected by May 12th will result in being added to the student's debt list with the bookkeeper.  Students will receive their IB Stoles at the End of the Year Banquet.

End of the Year Banquet:

Invitations were distributed through the student's English Classes this morning.  We are asking that all students and families that will be attending bring a covered dish.  The IB Boosters will be providing the main dish - fried chicken.  PLEASE RSVP BY MAY 12TH.  This can be done by contacting Mrs. Lynn Higginbotham via phone at (904) 693-9235 or returning the invitation to Mr. Carter on Campus.  We would like to have an accurate count so that we don't go home with any leftovers :-)

In addition to eating, we will also be recognizing our IB Learner Profile Award recipients, IB Students of the Year, and our Graduating Seniors of the Class of 2015.

Back to School!

Good Morning Everyone,

We are a little more than a week from going back to school and getting back into the swing of things.  Once again, as you come back to Ed White you will see many new faces in the hallways, classrooms and offices.  I wanted to welcome new Principal, Mr. Eric Paul, who shares our high expectations for the IB Program as we continue to grow in the right direction.  Also, we are bringing it about 20 new freshman, five new sophomores and one new Junior!

Another change that you will find is in my position as IB Coordinator.  We have adjusted my teaching schedule in a way where I will be able to have EVERY B-Day as an office day; allowing me to better serve the needs of our students, families and faculty!

Hope Everyone is looking forward to another great year!

Rising Juniors - CAS Projects

Attention Rising Juniors and Parents,

I have received a few emails from students wanting to start their CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) Activities and Projects over the Summer.  Unfortunately, IB does not recognize and activities/projects prior to the beginning of the Junior Year (August 18, 2014).  Therefore any work that you do over the summer may qualify for Bright Futures, but it will not count towards your CAS Outcomes.

Here are some suggestions that I have for your over the Summer for those that are itching to get started:

1.  Brainstorm a List of activities that you think you might want to participate in.
2.  Research those activities on a local level (Contacts, Areas of town, Opportunities to Volunteer, Etc.)
3.  Create a master list of ideas that you think we work for CAS .
4. Wait til August 18th to get things started.

Parents:  We will have a Junior CAS Meeting once we return to school (September/October) so that you and your students will be able to get all of the pertinent information that you will need to stay on top of these experiential learning opportunities over the next two years.  This way Mrs. Curran and I are not the only ones pushing your child to be diligent in tracking and maintaining their CAS Activities/Projects.

Thanks for your Patience!

Mr. Carter
